The roof is on fire! (Just kidding. The roof is fine.)

A few weeks ago I told you about the Great Porch Project and we're a little stalled on that because the siding has started and it's a whole thing. But go to THAT POST so you can see what the old siding looked like.

It was ugly.

Matt's parents graciously purchased new siding for our house. The old stuff was coming off in some areas, definitely needed to be repainted, window sills needs some help, but we also desperately needed insulation on our house.

We live in northern Wisconsin, we're rather close to Lake Superior so it is cold for at least nine months a year. You absolutely need insulation if you'd like to not spend a million dollars on heat every year. We do not want to do that because we cannot afford that.

So last week they started ripping everything off of the house and putting insulation on and taping it. That was quite a process and it was kind of rainy almost every day, except for the one freak day it was in the mid-80's the day they were doing the warmest side of our house. I felt so bad. It's two guys and they are just the nicest ever so it's been cool to chit chat with them. AND they clean my entire yard. EVERY DAY.
On Friday though they started putting a little of the new siding on and you guys? I am in love with it. I did think it was going to be a little darker but it matches the sample so I'm not sure what the hell is wrong with my eyes, but I really like it.

(Yes, we need a new patio area. Yes, it's wavy and weird.)
I can't wait to see how far they come this week. I'll try to take pictures. I think once they get an entire side done, it'll really look so much different.

If you've been to our house since we bought it in 2013, you would have discovered two things:

1. Our doorbell doesn't work. Neither the front door nor the back door.
2. Back door porch light really sucks, and our front door has nothing. Nothing at all.

With the house tore up we decided now was the time to fix the light in the back and install one in the front. Like big kids. We are probably the easiest home improvement people because we make quick decisions, no debating and thinking about it, we go and pick it and we are DONE.

I found two lights, one was on clearance. We bought two of the clearance ones and called it good.
Isn't it pretty, you guys? I mean, I don't want to brag but is that a grown up light or WHAT?
I feel super swanky having two lights that actually function. I can flip the switch and the light will always come on. My neighbors probably think I'm sending some weird message because I keep flipping the lights on and off. It's so exciting.

You also would know, if you came here, I had doorbells... that did not work. You could push that button all day and I wouldn't know. I mean, that was kind of nice.

But randomly last week, Matt and I were in the kitchen talking when out of nowhere- the front door bell actually DINGED. It dinged. We, obviously, ran to the front door to stand and look at it, and took turns pushing it but couldn't get it to ding again. (The UPS man has magic fingers, you guys.)
Matt spent a good chunk of Sunday morning installing the porch lights but ALSO! A doorbell! THAT DINGS ALL OF THE TIME! Only on the front door. The wiring is a hot mess at the back door so that's a project for another weekend, I wasn't going to push it. Look at it, though. Look at me holding it like it's a prize!

It is a prize. It's very exciting. Lights and bells, you guys. I'm a lucky lady.

(And if you're like, "Dang- that light is pretty effing awesome!", you can get one. The silver is discontinued but the black one is pretty swank...)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets excited about home projects and also that I'm not the only one who has an old house in need of TLC! I love your new siding and your pretty lights!

It's coming together so nice! I love the lights you chose - super fancy. My doorbell hasn't worked in years. LOL
