September 2019 Wrap Up & Goals

I started this for August and I really liked it, so I am going to try to keep this a regular thing because it  might be helpful for me to have just the highlights. Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know, but let's try.


  • Decided to call and set up an appointment with a weight loss doctor. It's not until December but I'm pretty excited about it. 
  • School started for the kids (Olivia 8th grade, Jackson 6th grade, Penelope 4K, and Lucy 3K)
  • Olivia turned 14 and this feels like we have an official teenager. Which is weird because she was 13 last year (obviously) but I don't know. It's like we're really on the cusp of a lot of big things now. 
  • I really struggled this month health wise and the start of fall means a downward slide into tough months. 
  • This month the kids and I went to see my brother and his family, and we all celebrated my nephew's first birthday. It was a great weekend away! 
  • We started some home improvement projects and we are confident they will be finished in October. Most of them at least. 
  • Olivia, Penelope, and Lucy started dance this month and all three were so excited to get back into it. Part of my cognitive issues means I can't really organize, sort, make decisions super well, and when I looked at the schedule I saw gaps and was like "awesome!!" thinking it would be easier. It actually makes it more chaotic and I go through a LOT more gas running back and forth. On Mondays and Wednesdays I make two round trip, back to back trips to Duluth alone. Late nights and lots of driving are making me exhausted. The good news is I get more reading in. 
  • I also went on a mom date with my friend Tammy and we went to dinner and saw the movie Hustlers, which wasn't great. I mean, the actresses in there were great but the movie itself was meh. It wasn't really what I thought it was. 
  • The kids (Olivia and Jackson) and I also went to see the movie Good Boys and holy hell that was not appropriate. Honestly, I was completely mortified watching that with my kids. Not even kidding. 
Books read: I read 15 books this month and I feel like that was pretty ambitious considering how busy the month was for me in general. 

Goals: I don't know how much I'll get done in October because it's another hectic month, but ideally, this is what I'd like to see happen:

  • Take the kids to Burch Barn and have a really nice fall family day. 
  • Read 10 books. (I have 9 on the calendar for review, but I'm rounding this up to 10 because I don't want to be unrealistic.)
  • Volunteer twice at school. 
  • One mom date with a friend. 
  • One date with Matt. 
  • Go to Amnicon Falls or Pattison Park to hike and pick leaves. 
  • Go to Grandma and Grandpa's for our pumpkins. 
  • Boo at the Zoo 
  • Scarium at the Aquarium
What was the highlight of your September? Or a goal for October? I have already eaten so much Halloween candy so I don't even care if we end up trick or treating or not.

I like all the goals you have, especially a mom date and a husband date. I need to get one of each of those on my calendar too. And both Halloween events sound like fun too.

Oh and about 13 versus 14, I feel like 14 is a lot more teenager than 13 is. So much happens at age 14 it feels like as you transition to high school and such. So, I get it!

Wow!! 15 books?! That’s amazing. Goodreads just told me that I’d how many bold I’ve read this year 🤦‍♀️ Le sigh. Hope tins pick up soon now that the months are colder! Also love your hubby and mom friend dates! It’s good to get those things down in writing so you stay accountable. Hope it’sa great October for you ❤️

The Fall is always a hectic time for me, but it's mostly fun things so I can't complain too much. Once it gets super super cold, it'll start to slow down. Great job on all the books you read in September. That's awesome!! And good for you for making an appointment with a weight loss doctor. I did a whole program and lost a lot of weight, but I haven't been as diligent lately so I've gained some back. I really want to focus on it more this Fall and just be more active/eat better. I hope the appointment helps and gives you some new ideas of things to try! And please share with the rest of us. :)
