Maybe Not

I'm going to share what I got in my Bookworm Box tomorrow, but today I'm going to review one of the books that came in it! I'll give you a spoiler: this was the best Bookworm Box yet. We'll talk more about it tomorrow.

Maybe Not - Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe Someday brilliantly brings to life the story of the wonderfully hilarious and charismatic Warren in a new novella, Maybe Not.

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

OK, so this is a novella and I've said it before but it's worth saying again: I am a huge fan of novellas. If you are that person who is all, "Ugh, I'd like to read but I never have time to read", then you really need to invest in novellas. They are always so short (this one is 120 pages, not including the sneak peak of her next book) so there is literally no reason to not read.

Stop being stupid, folks.

Anyways.

First thing, I have read a few other books by Colleen Hoover so I know I'm in for a fun romance with some pretty great sexy time scenes. The description says this is "wonderfully hilarious", but I'll tell you I didn't laugh. This isn't a hilarious book. It's your run of the mill romance and the guy is kind of a moron with an inflated ego and they play pranks. Pretty much all of my expectations for this book were met and it's pretty standard.

Let's talk about what drives me nuts in romance novels that are trendy now: a pissed off, angry girl. It's so cliche. Wah- bad things happen to me so I'm going to be a bitch towards everyone, all of the time and be as immature as possible and then wonder why nobody likes me but I'm going to pretend I don't care because I hate the world.

Authors- I am SO SICK OF THIS CHARACTER. Sick of it. Frankly, it's becoming the thing if you can't quite develop a character but you want to get your new book out to just do this and go with it. Just stop it. Stop it already, it's enough, the horse is dead, stop beating it to death.

*sigh*

So that's my rant for this book. And before you comment and say, "But SARA! Did you not read what happened to her? It's AWFUL, you are a terrible person!", shut up. I read it, I get it, but I am also tired of this being the default result when someone has been through a tough childhood. Stop it. There are more possibilities out there and I am begging you to find them because I know plenty of people who have something traumatic happen to them and they would not act this way.

What I did like? I liked the sexy scenes. Let's face it, that is kind of the point of a romance novel and Colleen does a fantastic job of it. She's always very solid here and she delivers again.

Honestly? I'll give this book 3/5 stars. It's a fun little book and I think if you don't read 50 romance novels in a year (at least, like me) that you will likely enjoy this more than me. Not to say I didn't enjoy it, I did, but I am also glad it was only 120 pages versus a full length novel. I will say, I am looking forward to her next book, Maybe Someday because the characters Ridge and Sydney (which we meet in this book) get their own story in Maybe Someday and I'm intrigued.

You can find Maybe Not on Amazon as well as Barnes & Noble. Obviously you can get it in an e-format but you know I'm pro print so I'm going to suggest this as a fun stocking stuffer because it can easily be squeezed into a stocking!
